In a lifetime, the average American will throw away 600 times his or her adult weight in garbage. This means that each adult will leave a legacy of 90,000 lbs of trash for his or her children.

200 million gallons of oil are improperly disposed of each year. One gallon of oil can contaminate close to 1 million gallons of drinking water.
How long does it take to break down? Plastics take 500 years. Aluminum cans take 500 years. Organic materials take 6 months. Cotton, rags and paper take 6 months.

Recycle that Hershey’s Kiss wrapper! More than 20 million Hershey’s Kisses are wrapped each day using 133 square miles of tinfoil. Many people don’t realize all that tin is recyclable.

Earth is 2/3 water, but all the fresh water streams only represent one hundredth of one percent (0.01%) of that total.

Typical daily water usage: 3-7 gallons for toilet, 25-30 gallons for tub, 50-70 gallons for a 10-minute shower, 25-40 gallons for 1 washing-machine load, 9-12 for 1 dishwasher load.
The energy saved from recycling 1 aluminum can is enough to run a TV set for 3 hours and a 100 watt light bulb for 4 hours.
